Feel Beautiful. Release your Inner Diva through Movement.

Oly Vixen Academy strives to bring All feminine creatures back into the divine embodiment of their unquestionable beauty and sacred intelligence. Women today are asked to fulfill many roles: Wife, mother, provider, community leaders and of course lover. In the face of all of these expectations it can be easy to forget that we are inherently desirable creatures and that we are the container from which life and creation spring forth on many levels for many people. Is it any wonder that at the end of the day you might not be feeling like a sexy Vixen? Perhaps you haven’t caught a glimpse of her in days, weeks or even years. Trust me, she is still in there and I dare say she would like to come out to play.
-Tess Fox

“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud” – Coco Chanel.

About Oly Vixen:
The inspiration for this format springs forth from a fascination that I have long had around the turn of the century culture. During the late 1800’s Sol Bloom brought something unusual to America, via the Chicago World Fair. Among the entertainers that he imported, there was a dark haired, voluptuous beauty named “Fatima”, later known as the famous “Little Egypt”. This Vixen set America on its heels and inspired a generation of young women to cast off the oppressive social dictates of the time for a bolder approach. Hemlines and hair got shorter as the Hoochy Koochy infiltrated the hearts and minds of our citizens. Fatima was our first taste of Bellydance and while she was not providing a striptease she certainly inspired others to be more daring and less dressed than they had ever been before.

About Tess Fox:
I have always danced and been curious about the world and how to explore it through movement and being. Started formally training in the late 80’s in Seattle after a friend talked me into going to a Belly dance class with her, she never went again but I was hooked. If I knew her today I would give her the biggest thank you imaginable, she does not know how many times that invitation has saved my life. I have taught now for a little more than a decade as well as directing a performance company for nine years. I also have a background in Strip Tease. My other credentials include certifications in Energy Medicine, Chinese Herbalism and, Reflexology. I am currently a Healing Touch for Animals Practitioner working to achieve my national certification in this field. Whenever possible, I enjoy furthering my performance knowledge by attending various Burlesque and Bellydance workshops locally.

Six Week Vixenology Class

The six week course will provide an opportunity for us to demystify some of the conceptions around being a woman in a culture that is simultaneously frightened of and obsessed with our sexuality. Private lessons to individuals or groups who wish fine tune technique or have support in creating choreography.
Over the six weeks we will have an opportunity to reclaim our essence through movement and the sharing of our experiences as women, there will be recommended but not required reading. We will touch on feminine history from “Parthenon to Pasties” learning both temple poses created by Divas and basic strip tease inspired by Burlesque icons such as Gypsy Rose Lee. At the risk of creating controversy, this could be summed up as “Bellydance to Burlesque”. After all, this encompasses a range of social taboos that a true vixen can simply live without.

Classes start March 2, 2014 at the Olympia Dance Center located on 412 Jefferson St SE, Olympia, WA 98501 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Cost of the 6 weeks: $95.
